The STR PRE and Int have a feature called Home Theater Bypass which lets you configure a specific Input to remain active even while the STR is powered off in order to pass the signal to your speakers. The difference between the PRE and Int for this feature would be that the INT allows the use of its internal amplifier, whereas the PRE would still require an external amplifier to power your speakers.
